URL & file extension
In the additor® system, the address of a website is made up of the file name and extension. Each page can be called up with a whole range of different endings. To do this, simply replace the extension in the address line of the browser.
Ending ".html"
".html" is the standard ending for pages. For an "Imprint" page on the "www.additor.com" website, this results in the URL "http://www.additor.com/Impressum.html".
This is the HTML version of the page as any normal (anonymous) visitor to the website will see it. If a URL of an additor® page is to be passed on, this is the appropriate version.
Browsers may cache this version of the page locally for a while. If the user returns to the page later, the browser does not need to request it again from the web server.
Extension ".page"
As soon as a user logs into the additor® system, the URLs of the pages change; they now end in ".page". Depending on the user's authorisations, they can see pages or page content after logging in that was previously hidden from them.
The different file extension is used to prevent a browser from displaying the previously anonymously viewed and cached version of the page after logging in. The ".page" extension means that the browser sees a different file. The browser may not cache this version of the page locally, so the version displayed is always up-to-date. As soon as a user logs out, they are redirected back to the ".html" version of the page. It may be that the browser displays a cached older version of the page. It may then be necessary to delete the browser cache. Please follow the instructions of your browser manufacturer.
A user who has not yet logged in can easily access the edit version of a page by replacing the ".html" ending with ".page" in the URL line of the browser. The user will be redirected to a login page and, after successful login, back to the original page.
For this reason, the URL ending in ".page" is not suitable for forwarding unless the recipient is to log in to access non-public information on a page or to be able to edit the page.
Ending ".rss"
Newslist pages can also be output as RSS feeds.
